The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
